Fairfield firefighters rescued animals from a basement fire at 464-466 Knapps Highway this morning.

All of the people in the home got out safely before firefighters arrived.

All of the animals were rescued. They included at least one rabbit.

The fire was under control about a half an hour after the initial call.

Firefighters said the family was very lucky, because there were no working smoke detectors in the area of the fire.
