Transgender Girl Being Moved Out Of Prison

Late Friday afternoon, state officials announced that a transgender girl is being moved out of prison next week.

In a written statement, the Department of Children and Families said Jane Doe will be moved to the Pueblo Unit at the Solnit South Children’s Psychiatric Center in Middletown.

The center includes a locked treatment facility for girls who are at risk of running away.

The unidentified teenager had been held since early April, without criminal charges.

She is awaiting a possible transfer to a facility in Massachusetts.

The department says Jane Doe has made progress over recent months.

The department had previously said it had to move the transgender girl to prison, because of her violent history.

Her lawyer has said she should not have been locked up at an adult prison for so long.
