Sandy Ground Project Opens In West Haven

WEST HAVEN, Conn. (AP) _ Charlotte Bacon’s parents say she would have loved the new playground by the beach in West Haven that is full of her favorite things _ the color pink and dogs.

Joel and JoAnn Bacon were joined by hundreds of people at Sea Bluff Beach on Sunday as they officially opened the playground built in honor of Charlotte, one of the 20 children killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown in 2012. Six educators also died.

It’s the 24th playground to be built under the Sandy Ground Project, which has been building playgrounds for each of the 26 victims in areas in Connecticut, New York and New Jersey affected by Superstorm Sandy in 2012.

Joel Bacon said playing at Sea Bluff Beach was one of Charlotte’s favorite things to do.
