(Hartford, Conn./CBS Connecticut) - As we head into the Atlantic storm season, Connecticut’s insurance commissioner is advising homeowners to be up on their insurance policies and to know, in the event of a storm, what’s covered and what isn’t covered.

Commissioner Thomas Leonardi said policyholders need to take stock of their situation.

Leonardi says they should sit down with their agent of insurance company to determine if current coverage is adequate.

Among some of the safeguards policyholders can take, Leonardi said it’s a good idea to make an inventory of belongings.

Also, keep policy and insurance contact information in a safe place.

He also suggests knowing if there is risk of flood and if it’s a good idea to secure flood insurance.
