Sen. Murphy Pushing for More Men to Become Mentors

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ Connecticut Sen. Chris Murphy is encouraging more local men to become mentors as part of a national initiative pushed by President Barack Obama.

Murphy was scheduled Friday morning to appear at the Asylum Hill Boys and Girls Club in Hartford to draw attention to “My Brother’s Keeper,” which was introduced earlier this year to connect young minority men and boys with strong mentors in the community.

Murphy was expected to discuss how the federal government can assist such networks for young men and boys.

The Democrat was also expected to encourage both men and women to become involved in the program.
