Two Injured, Bear Killed In Barkhamsted Accident

BARKHAMSTED, Conn. (AP) _ A traffic accident in Barkhamsted has left two motorists injured and a black bear dead.

Police tell the Republican-American the bear tried to cross Ripley Hill Road on Tuesday evening forcing a pickup truck driver to swerve in an attempt to avoid the animal.

That truck struck an oncoming sedan. The bear was also struck and killed in the accident. Police say neither driver was seriously injured, but both were taken to Winsted Health Center for observation.
