Police Warn Of Scam

(Newington, Conn./CBS Connecticut) – In Newington, police are warning of a scam after they say the home of an elderly woman was burglarized Tuesday.

The victim says around 2:30 p.m., she was approached by a man who indicated he doing work at a neighboring home and that the owners were looking to have shrubbery removed.

Police say the man engaged the victim while an accomplice sneaked into the home, taking money and jewelry.

The suspect is described as a black male between 5-foot-5 and 5-foot-8 inches, between 160-and-200 pounds clean shaven with short hair.

He was wearing a navy blue tee shirt and jeans.

Police say it’s not the first time such a scam has been hatched and they ask anyone with information in this or other similar incidents to call them at (860) 666-8445.
