WEST HAVEN, Conn. (AP) _ Additional funding for a West Haven veterans program is included in a bipartisan Senate bill aimed at helping veterans who’ve waited a long time to receive medical care.

The U.S. Senate on Wednesday passed the legislation 93-3. The measure closely resembles a bill approved Tuesday in the House.

The bill includes more than $ 4.8 million in new funding for the Errera (Eh-REHR’-ah) Community Care Center in West Haven. Connecticut Sen. Richard Blumenthal said the funding will allow the program to expand. He called the center a national model of care.

Errera helps veterans with mental illness, substance abuse, homelessness and aging issues.

Sen. Chris Murphy said the center has not received adequate funding in the past and this additional money will help veterans get the medical attention they need.
