9 Years for Man in Fatal Assault

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (CBS Connecticut) _ Lengthy jail time for a Cheshire man in a fatal drunken assault at a Bristol park.

Johnnie Vail, 24, was sentenced to nine years in prison Monday at New Britain Superior Court for punching 18-year-old bristol man Jesus Vega during a basketball game in late May two years ago, causing him to suffer a fatal brain injury.

Vail pleaded guilty in April to first-degree manslaughter.

Vega died seven days after being punched, his organs were donated, his heart going to Cheshire’s Colby Salerno, who gained popularity while blogging about his time in the hospital awaiting a heart transplant.
