CLEVELAND (AP) _ The Boston Red Sox have placed first baseman Mike Carp on the 15-day disabled list with a broken right foot.
Carp’s foot was broken last week, when he fouled ball off it in Atlanta. He played a few more games, but was bothered by the injury and tests taken Sunday revealed the fracture.
The Red Sox also activated shortstop Stephen Drew, who will make his season debut Monday night against the Indians. Boston also recalled outfielder Daniel Nava.
Red Sox manager John Farrell said Drew will be eased into the lineup, but will likely take over as Boston’s everyday shortstop. Drew is in the lineup batting eighth.
Drew re-signed with the Red Sox last month after he initially rejected a $14.1 million qualifying offer from the World Series champions to become a free agent.
