Serious Assault In New Haven

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (CBS Connecticut) _ A man who was severely beaten Friday night by two men on Chapel Street near Orange Street is in critical condition.

Police were called to the scene around 8:01 p.m., finding victim Francisco Ray, 66, had been knocked unconscious by two men who fled the scene atop a single bike.

Ray suffered cardiac arrest either during or following the assault and was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital, reported in critical condition.

Not long after the assault, two suspects were spotted nearby and taken into custody.

Both Todd Traver, 32, of Waterbury, and Chris Laugne, 30, of Waterbury, are charged with first-degree assault and conspiracy to commit first-degree assault.
