(CBS Connecticut) _ The high-profile Washington D.C.-based attorney for John Rowland is looking to dismiss all charges against the former governor for his role in a federal campaign finance scheme.
Attorney Reid Weingarten filed the motion to dismiss all seven counts against Rowland on Tuesday in U.S. District Court.
In a lengthy explanation, he said the prosecution repeatedly failed to provide proper evidence against Rowland for trying to conceal his role in a pair of congressional campaigns.
The motion also claims that certain counts against Rowland were improperly applied in the case.
The later of the two campaigns involved Lisa Wilson-Foley and her husband Brian Foley, who already pleaded guilty to trying to cover up some $35,000 in consulting fees paid to Rowland during a failed 2012 congressional run.
