Police Investigate Incident Involving Child, Strange Vehicle

(Portland, Conn./CBS Connecticut) – Police in Portland are looking for a man and woman they say attempted to lure a child into their car just as the youngster exited the school bus Tuesday.

Detectives say the child had been let off at the base of a residential driveway when a dark, four-door pick-up truck with Virginia license plates stopped and a man inside asked the child for a ride, which was refused.

The child again refused when a second offer was made.

The man in the vehicle is described as a white male, early 20s with a stocky build, brownish-red hair and a close cropped beard.

The passenger in the vehicle is described as an Asian female, early 20s, thin build wearing a lime green tank top.

Police stress there were no threats made against the child, nor any attempts made to pull the child into the pickup.

The school bus company was contacted and a state broadcast was sent to all police departments.

Anyone with any information regarding the incident is asked to call Portland police at (860) 342-6781.
