The Town of Oxford Foots the Bill For Hero Dog
SHELTON, Conn. (AP) _ The town of Oxford is picking up the veterinary bills of a dog that was shot along with two women inside their home last week.
Nika, a 10-year-old German Shephard mix, was struck in the chest during the shooting and is recovering after multiple surgeries Shoreline Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center in Shelton.
Officials tell the Republican American newspaper (http://bit.ly/RBT9g5 ) the location of the dog’s wounds indicate she may have been trying to protect her owner, Merry Jackson, when they were shot, along with 32-year-old Lori Gellatly.Gellatly was killed. Jackson remains in serious condition at Waterbury Hospital.
Lori Gellatly’s estranged husband, Scott Gellatly, is due in Milford Superior court Tuesday on murder and other charges.
Oxford First Selectman George Temple says he considers the dog to be a hero.
