302 Counts of Fraud Offenses In Wallingford Arrest

WALLINGFORD, Conn. (CBS Connecticut) _ Wallingford police have arrested a New York man on hundreds of fraud-related offenses.

Luc Beaubrun, 26, of Brooklyn, NY, was arrested Monday on 302 offenses related to fraud including larceny, identity theft and forgery.

The investigation surrounded the use of fraudulent credit cards to purchase multiple gift cards and other similar cards from a Walmart on North Colony Road.

Police were alerted to the scheme March 13 and commenced an investigation.

They say this type of activity is often associated with fraudulent credit card use and is a scam involving the use of reproduced credit cards that are either embossed or encoded with stolen credit/debit account numbers.

The reproduced credit cards are then used to purchase legitimate gift cards in order to transfer money from stolen accounts to non-traceable gift cards.

Beaubrun was held on a $50,000 bond and arraigned at Meriden Superior Court Tuesday.

Further arrests are pending.
