Woman Charged in Fatal Hit-and-Run in Stamford

STAMFORD, Conn. (AP) _ Stamford police have made an arrest in a hit-and-run accident that killed a 70-year-old woman.

Forty-five-year-old Yolanda McDowell of Stamford was charged Sunday night with manslaughter and evading responsibility after witnesses who saw the accident gave police the license plate number of the minivan that struck the victim shortly before 7 p.m.

Authorities haven’t identified the victim. WFSB-TV reports that she was struck while trying to cross a street and was pronounced dead at an area hospital.

Witnesses say the minivan struck another vehicle and fled the scene after hitting the woman.

McDowell is detained on $250,000 bail and is expected to be arraigned Monday in Stamford Superior Court. It’s not clear if she has a lawyer.
