HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ Despite the long winter, Connecticut’s environmental agency says it expects to stock nearly 390,000 trout in time for the fishing season’s opening day.

Pete Aarrestad, director of the Inland Fisheries Division at the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, says the agency had to postpone several days of stocking due to morning temperatures in the single digits. Several other scheduled stocking runs were shifted to sites with better access.

More than 200 truckloads of trout are scheduled to be released into 100 lakes and ponds and 194 rivers and streams in time for opening day on Saturday. Fish to be released include brook trout, brown trout, tiger trout, rainbow trout and other fish.

Dennis Schain, spokesman for the environmental agency, says about 750,000 fish will be stocked during the season.
