Rallying Against Violence in Hartford

HARTFORD (CBS Connecticut) _ Members of the community, the Hartford Police Department, and some big-name elected officials are getting together in Hartford Saturday morning.

It’s the sixth annual “March to End Gun Violence” by the group Mothers United Against Violence.

It gathers at 9:30 at the Wilson-Gray YMCA, 444 Albany Ave., where relatives of those who’ve lost their lives to violence in the streets of Hartford since 2000 will receive crosses commemorating their deceased loved ones.

Then they’ll march to the state capitol, for a rally, where Governor Malloy and Lieutenant Governor Wyman will join.

Hartford police say they’re assisting with the event and many of their command staff will be participating.

The theme this year is “This is Our Community.”
