Body Identified, Car Accident Investigated In Orange
State police are investigating a car accident in Orange involving a vehicle belonging to a man whose body was found more than three weeks after the accident in a nearby lake.
According to police, a vehicle belonging to Vaughn Porteous, 30, was found around 4:45 a.m. on March 19 with heavy front end damage. Police say the vehicle was found crashed up against the barrels at the entrance to the rest area near Exit 56 of Route 15 northbound.
Police used K-9 teams to try to track the driver of the vehicle. Investigators also checked surveillance footage and spoke to people in the area, and concluded the operator of the vehicle may have left the scene after getting a ride from someone.
Porteous’ body was found in Lake Wepawaug on Saturday, floating about 15 feet off shore near a popular fishing area. The lake is less than a quarter-mile from where Porteous’ vehicle was found on March 19.
Anyone with information about the accident is asked to contact State Police Troop I- Bethany at (203) 393-4200 or the Orange Police Department at (203) 891-2130.
