NEW LONDON, Conn. (AP) _ Connecticut College has formally inaugurated Katherine Bergeron as its 11th president.
Bergeron was formally installed Saturday during the Founders Day Inauguration ceremony featuring music that officials say reflects her roots as professor of musicology and growing global connections for the liberal arts college.
The ceremony also featured an academic procession of trustees, faculty, administrators and students, together with representatives from nearly 100 education institutions and societies.
Bergeron served as the dean of the College at Brown University before her appointment to Connecticut College.
Former Brown University Ruth Simmons was keynote speaker at the inauguration. She said Bergeron is the right leader for the school as it transforms itself.
Simmons also praised Bergeron’s commitment to academic excellence and said her tendency for developing creative solutions will help her lead the 103-year-old college.
