ARLINGTON, TX 4/4/14 The public practices and pre game press conferences are over. The hype is almost over. Now, we are ready for basketball. And just after 6 pm Eastern time on Saturday, UConn and Florida meet in an improbable rematch of their Gampel matchup on December 2nd.
No one knew that game would be a pre-cursor of a showdown at the mammoth AT&T Stadium. Mammoth doesn’t begin to describe this venue. Florida’s appearance is no surprise. Billy Donovan has a senior laden team with multi talented players. UConn’s appearance…well of course it’s a surprise. But the Huskies have earned their spot in the college basketball spotlight and my guess is they won’t shy away from it.
The December win helps UConn because it gives them confidence against the Nations #1 team. Yes, the venue is different and both teams are better and Florida is healthier. But UConn can draw on the December 2nd game to remember what it takes to beat a team like Florida.
I think getting easy points is critical for the Huskies because you can not led Florida lock you down with their half court defense. You must keep Michael Frazier from standing at the 3 point arc and draining shots. And you can’t let the highly under valued Patrick Young dominate the interior. Amida Brimah, Phil Nolan, Tyler Olander and friends have to play well.
Florida should be the favorite, they have been the best team in the country for at least two months. But the best team doesn’t always win and I am guessing that both games tomorrow night will be up for grabs heading to the final media timeout.
Pre game from Arlington will be 5:30 tomorrow night, I hope you can join us.
