HARTFORD (CBS Connecticut) -- The Department of Consumer Protection has announced the locations of the first six locations for medical marijuana dispensaries in the state.
The locations, in Hartford, South Windsor, Bristol, Bridgeport, Uncasville and Bristol will dispense only to certified patients with one of eleven specific illnesses (and their caregivers) whose doctors believe the treatment will help them, and who have registered with the medical marijuana program.
The six dispensary facilities were chosen through a competitive process, from among 27 applicants. Each had to submit qualifications and experience, a business plan , security features, and plans to provide benefits to the local community.
The selected providers can begin construction as soon as they pay their license fee and submit final documents, sometime in the next thirty days. Commissioner William Rubenstein says all six are expected to be ready to open and serve patients by the time marijuana products are available from licensed producers, sometime this summer.
