Jury Considering Case Of Newlywed Who Fatally Shot His Wife
NEW LONDON, Conn. (AP) _ A Connecticut jury has begun deliberating in the murder trial of a man who says he shot his wife of three weeks to death by accident in 2009.
Twelve jurors in New London Superior Court began weighing the evidence Monday in the case of 50-year-old Chihan Eric Chyung of Norwalk. He is charged with murder and manslaughter in the June 2009 killing of Paige Anne Bennett at their home in Norwich.
Chyung testified that his 9 mm pistol accidentally fired when he was packing it into a suitcase while he and Bennett were arguing. Bennett was fatally shot in the head.
But prosecutor David J. Smith told the jury during his closing argument Monday that the killing was intentional.
Deliberations are expected to resume Tuesday.
