Bullets Prompt East Hartford School Lockdown

EAST HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ A school in East Hartford was locked down for an hour after officials discovered a student was carrying bullets.

Police were called to the Woodland School on Friday morning after the discovery and searched the school. Officials say the student had several bullets for a handgun, but no gun was found.

Officials put the school in lockdown shortly before 8 a.m. as a precaution under security procedures. The lockdown was lifted shortly before 9 a.m.

Principal Helene Marchese sent a message to parents saying all students were safe and never in danger.

Marchese and police didn’t say whether the boy was disciplined or arrested.

The Woodland School’s website says it serves students in kindergarten through Grade 12 who require a “smaller more structured, nurturing environment.”
