BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) _ The owner of a gun shop that legally sold a rifle to the Newtown school shooter’s mother has been sentenced to three years’ probation for unrelated federal firearms violations.
A federal magistrate judge on Thursday also ordered David Laguercia to pay fines totaling $6,500 and to perform 100 hours of community service.
Laguercia, owner of Riverview Gun Sales in East Windsor, pleaded guilty to transfer of a firearm before completing a background check and failure to maintain firearms records.
Prosecutors say an investigation found about 300 examples of false or misleading information in Riverview Gun Sales records. His attorney said Laguercia never intentionally put anyone at risk.
Riverview legally sold a Bushmaster rifle to Nancy Lanza, whose son, Adam, used it to kill 20 first-graders and six educators at Sandy Hook Elementary School in 2012.
