PROVIDENCE, R.I. (CBS Connecticut/AP) — A Rhode Island state senator is apologizing for cursing at a gun rights advocate at the Statehouse.
Last week Democratic Sen. Joshua Miller of Cranston used a profanity to insult Dan Bidondi, a gun rights supporter who had confronted Miller following a Statehouse rally in support of legislation to ban the sale of semi-automatic firearms. Bidondi, who has criticized the legislation as unconstitutional, filmed the exchange and posted it online.
“The Second Amendment shall not be infringed, you people need to understand that,” Bidondi told Miller.
Miller responded: “Go f*** yourself.”
Miller says Bidondi had been intimidating supporters of the legislation, who included religious leaders and elderly veterans. Miller says Bidondi’s behavior prompted his “human and guttural” response.
Miller said Tuesday that his words were unjustified and he offered his apologies.
Bidondi says he found Miller’s comments unprofessional.
