HARTFORD (CBS Connecticut) –– With a week left in open enrollment for the Connecticut health exchange “Access Health CT” has signed up some 170-thousand participants.
CEO Kevin Counihan says Monday night’s enrollments totalled 1,168 — about double a normal sign-up. The health insurance marketplace is conducting a “March to Enrollment” campaign, increasing call center hours and advertising in hopes of signing up as many state residents as possible before the March 31 deadline.
There have been criticisms that the health exchanges have not enrolled enough young, healthy participants to be cost-effective, but Counihan says 30% of enrollees are younger than 35. And he adds that they’re seeing an increase in younger people as the deadline approaches.
