One Dead in New Haven Shooting

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) _ New Haven police say one teenager was killed and another was critically injured in a nighttime shooting near a city school, which was closed at the time.

The teens were found wounded near Lincoln Basset Elementary School at about 9 p.m. Monday and brought to Yale-New Haven Hospital. Police say a 17-year-old boy died and a 16-year-old boy is in critical condition.

Authorities say both victims are from Hamden. Their names haven’t been released.

No arrests have been announced.

Police say they also responded to a report of a third shooting victim. The person was assaulted but not shot, and authorities are trying to confirm if that person was involved in the shooting.

The teen’s death is New Haven’s fifth homicide of the year.
