Oh the madness is underway !!  What a great way to start the Men’s Tourney Thursday with 4 OT games, 2 more 12 beating 5 upsets and the return of the Huskies in the big dance with an OT win over St. Joe’s last night. The Women’s Event begins Saturday at 8 sites…Meanwhile the UConn Women must wait till’ 8pm Sunday Night to get going. It’ll be 13 days between games for Geno’s Team, but it’s not necessarily a bad thing.

Why ? Well, KML has had plenty of time to get her stamina back in full after her bout with Mono. Of course she did log plenty of minutes in the American Tourney, but the way UConn practices, she’ll be ready…Moriah Jefferson has been walking around in a “boot” on her right foot nursing a stress reaction. No signs of the reaction’s effect on her play yet..and that’s a good thing. And Stefanie wasn’t feeling so hot-so early in the week…Timing is everything…

The brackets came out Monday and of course there’s always grumbling. UConn avoids Louisville, but if form holds, they’ll be forced to play a true road game in the Sweet 16 in Lincoln against Nebraska. That might be the only real road block to Nashville. But in reality, the Big 10 isn’t exactly a strong league..Maybe balanced, but not a power when it comes to WBB. And with Duke as the #2 seed, and we know what the Huskies have done to them when healthy, they have no shot at getting thru UConn to get to Nashville. Tennessee and South Carolina are more than deserving with #1 seeds out of the SEC and of course the Irish get the other. They plowed through the ACC as many expected. and it should not go overlooked how good they have done this season. Muffett McGraw has built a top quality program in South Bend and despite losing two quality seniors in Kayla McBride and Natalie Achonwa, they’ll be a force to be reckoned with for years.

Pretty much everyone and their uncle expects to see the Huskies and Irish play for the championship in Nashville.  And why not ? They’ve been so dominant all season long. The committee could have easily put ND as the #1 overall seed. But with all the quality non-conference wins the Huskies had, especially on the road, you can’t deny them that top seed. There will be some upsets in this season’s event…Just don’t expect it to be UConn & Notre Dame…

It all begins for Deb and I Sunday at 7:30 from Storrs…and good luck not just to the guys in their game with Villanova Saturday Night, but to the 16 teams playing for state championships this weekend in the High School Finals at the Mohegan Sun Arena..Five games Saturday, 3 Sunday…Enjoy !
