New Scam Targets Bank Customers

FARMINGTON (CBS Connecticut) — Simsbury police say a local bank is again the target of a telephone “phishing” scheme trying to get customers to turn over account information —  only this time the intended victims are the recipients of text messages instead of phone calls.

Police say the text purports to be an alert from Simsbury Bank,  and gives a telephone number to learn how the account is affected.  But,  as with the telephone calls a week and a half ago,  the text messages are fake,  an attempt to scam recipients into turning over personal identifying information.

The bank posted a reminder at their website that they would never call, text or e-mail requesting specific card, account or pin numbers.
