HARTFORD (CBS Connecticut) _ New state data cements consumers complaints about the competitive electric supplier market.
An independent consultant found that on a monthly basis, customers that go with a competitive electric supplier as opposed to the standard offer are overpaying by more than $13 million.
“In my opinion, those numbers are probably conservative because that was before the winter cold spike when we saw the prices really go up,” said State Consumer Counsel Elin Katz. “We’re going to be updating the data and I think that you will see even higher numbers.”
Nine out of 10 CL&P and 7 out of 10 UI customers are overpaying.
Katz plans to introduce regulatory proposals next week.
