Man Found Dead In Stamford Identified

STAMFORD, Conn. (AP) – Stamford police have identified a homeless man found dead in a city park last week as a 43-year-old father of four from Guatemala.

Authorities told The Advocate of Stamford that the man was Samuel Gonzalez, whose body was discovered by a city worker at Cummings Park on March 4.

Lt. Diedrich Hohn says an autopsy was inconclusive about how Gonzalez died, but there were no signs of a criminal act.

Pending toxicology tests may help determine the cause of death.

Hohn says Gonzalez recently had surgery and police identified him with help from Stamford Hospital.

Police say Gonzalez’s body was found near a park bathroom in frigid cold with a near-empty bottle of vodka nearby.

Authorities notified Gonzalez’s wife about his death with the help of the Guatemalan consulate.
