Man Injured In Bridgeport Fire

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) _ A man suffered serious burns in a fire in a building in downtown Bridgeport.

Spokesman William Kaempffer tells the Connecticut Post firefighters responded at 3:37 a.m. Friday to 1150 Main St., on a report of fire in a vacant structure.

Firefighters found a victim inside the building and had to use cutting tools to get to him because of a locked metal security gate at the door.

The man, later identified as Javier Berrios, 47, was taken to a local hospital.

Bridgeport Hospital spokesman John Cappiello says the man is in critical condition.

Main Street was closed at Golden Hill Street and public works crews spread sand over the ice-glazed road, where water from the fire hoses had frozen.
