959 Area Code Starts In State In Six Months

HARTFORD (CBS Connecticut )–Connecticut is getting a third area code, joining the 203 code originally assigned to the state,  and the 860 code added almost twenty years ago.

PURA –the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority– says the new area code will take effect in the 860 calling region,  which covers all of Connecticut except Fairfield and New Haven Counties and a few towns in Litchfield County.   But, because of continuing local demand for telephone numbers, remaining unassigned telephone numbers in the 860 area code are expected to be exhausted by the end of this year.

The new 959 area codes will go into effect in August.
