HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ The Travelers insurance company says it is extending its sponsorship of the Travelers Championship golf tournament for 10 years.
The agreement announced Thursday with the PGA extends the Hartford company’s commitment to the professional tournament through 2024.
Travelers became the title sponsor for the event in 2007.
The company’s chief administrative officer, Andy Bessette, says it sponsors the championship because it’s good for the community and benefits charity.
Last summer’s tournament generated more than $1.2 million for charity. One of the biggest beneficiaries is the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, a summer camp for children with life-threatening illnesses that was founded by actor Paul Newman.
