State Representative From Suffield Dies

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ Gov. Dannel P. Malloy has directed state flags to fly at half-staff in honor of a state lawmaker who died overnight.

Democratic state Rep. Elaine O’Brien died early Friday of brain cancer. She was 58.

Malloy called O’Brien “a passionate legislator who dedicated much of her life to public service,” and improving the health safety of state residents.

O’Brien’s includes Suffield, East Granby and Windsor.

First elected to the legislature in 2010, was Vice Chairwoman of the Appropriations Committee and served on the Commerce and Transportation Committees.

She served in Suffield town government as the town clerk.

State flags will remain at half-staff until her burial, which has not been determined.
