Woman Rescued In West Haven House Fire

WEST HAVEN, Conn. (AP) _ An elderly woman was rescued while several animals died in a house fire in West Haven.

Firefighters responded to the blaze at the home on Wilson Avenue shortly after 5 a.m. Thursday. They rescued the woman from the first floor, while several other people managed to escape to safety.

The woman is being treated at Yale-New Haven Hospital. Her name and condition haven’t been released.

Officials say a few firefighters fell at the scene in slippery conditions caused by rain on Wednesday and overnight freezing, but they weren’t seriously hurt.

No details on the animals that died have been released.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
