BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) _ A Bridgeport landlord is facing a potential life prison sentence for killing a tenant in a dispute over rent money.
The Connecticut Post reports that 41-year-old Jimmy Cunningham is scheduled to be sentenced Tuesday in Bridgeport Superior Court to up to 65 years in prison.
Cunningham had boasted that he’d be acquitted of murdering 32-year-old Daniel Speller, the father of a 6-year-old girl. But a jury convicted him of murder in August, despite his self-defense claim.
Police say Speller was fatally shot in August 2012 after an argument on the front porch of a house where he rented an apartment from Cunningham.
Authorities say Cunningham drove away with Speller’s body in a cooler rack on the back of his Hummer and was arrested while trying to dump the body.
