Arraignment Today For Man Charged With Setting Fatal Fire

MANCHESTER, Conn. (AP)  – A 21-year-old man charged with murder in connection with a fatal fire in Manchester is set to be arraigned in state court.

Steven Durdek Jr. is scheduled to appear in Manchester Superior Court on Tuesday.

He’s also charged with felony murder, arson, burglary and evidence tampering in connection with the Jan. 18 fire at a Park Street apartment where 56-year-old Sarah Kelloway was found dead.

The Manchester resident was arrested Friday and detained on $1 million bond.

It’s not clear if he has a lawyer.

The chief medical examiner’s office says Kelloway died before the fire from blunt force trauma to her head.

Police haven’t released other details of the allegations against Durdek.
