Governor Delays Thursday Workday For Non-Essential State Workers, Bars Tandem Trucks As Of 4:00 a.m.

HARTFORD (CBS Connecticut) — Governor Dannel Malloy says state workers categorized as “non-essential” should delay their arrival at work on Thursday until 10:00 a.m. because of the approaching winter storm.  He told a 6:00 pm briefing at the state armory that the forecast could change, and if they determine state offices should be closed,  that announcement will be updated in the 8:00 a.m. hour.

Tandem trailers will be banned on state highways as of 4:00 a.m.,  in cooperation with neighboring states.

Malloy says the state Emergency Operations Center will open at 6:00 a.m. and noted that  first responders and National Guard are standing by.

He noted this is the 12th storm this winter, and says all 632 state DOT trucks and some 200 private contractors will be working on the highways —  ad a cost of some $100,000 per hour.
