Group Labels Two Roads Most Deadly In Connecticut
(Hartford, Conn./CBS Connecticut) - Two busy Connecticut roads have been branded the most dangerous in the state by the group Tri-State Transportation Campaign.
It says Route 1 along the shoreline, also known as the Boston Post Road, saw 11 pedestrians killed between 2010 and 2012.
In Hartford County, a section of Route 44 in East Hartford saw four people die in that same period.
By county, New Haven County was the deadliest among pedestrians with 30.
The campaign says changes in the offing along Route 44 include transforming a three-mile section from a four-lane to a two-lane thoroughfare with additional additional parking, bike lanes and dedicated turn lanes.
All told, 111 pedestrian fatalities on Connecticut roads were logged during that two year period.
