FALL RIVER, Mass. (AP) _ A judge says prosecutors in former NFL star Aaron Hernandez’s murder case cannot have recordings of his jailhouse phone calls.

The judge said Friday prosecutors didn’t make a sufficient case for the records, but may try again. The defense says prosecutors are on a fishing expedition.

The former New England Patriots tight end has pleaded not guilty to charges in the death last summer of Odin Lloyd, a 27-year-old Boston man who was dating the sister of Hernandez’s fiancee.

Prosecutors say Hernandez allegedly communicated about the case in “coded messages” in the phone calls and discussed his belief about his criminal liability.

Prosecutors acknowledged for the first time in court that they already have some of the recordings. The judge ordered them to turn those over to the defense.
