NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) – A former New Haven man is set to go on trial on charges he opened fire on a city street and killed two innocent bystanders in 2000.
Thirty-five-year-old Graig Hines was arrested two years ago in a police cold case investigation into the killings of 21-year-old Lakeia Vaughn and 26-year-old Lamont Brockenberry.
The New Haven Register reports (http://bit.ly/1c6HQA7 ) that Hines’ trial on murder and weapons charges is expected to begin Monday in New Haven Superior Court.
Police say Vaughn was sitting in a car and Brockenberry was standing with a group of people nearby when they were shot.
Authorities say the shooter’s target was a man who was standing outside Vaughn’s car and talking with her at the time of the shooting.
Hines has pleaded not guilty.
