Convicted Felon Man In Officer-Involved Shoot

ANSONIA, Conn. (AP) _ State Police say a convicted felon was shot as he tried to strike an Ansonia officer with his car.

Maurice Beall of Seymour has been charged with assault and other crimes in connection with the alleged incident on Saturday. It was not known Sunday if he’s represented by a lawyer.

Police say the 33-year-old Beall was involved in a motor vehicle accident in Ansonia and fled the scene.

Ansonia Officer Joe Jackson began a motor vehicle stop when police say Beall tried to strike him with his car. Jackson shot him while he was in the car.

Police say Beall drove about a mile to Derby where he passed out from the gunshot wound. He was treated at Yale New Haven Hospital.

Police say he has been convicted of assault and narcotics charges.
