VERNON, Conn. (CBS Connecticut) _ An alert citizen helped thwart a burglary in Vernon Sunday morning.

A person called around 7:43 a.m. to report a burglary in progress at the Vernon Tailor, located in a small business plaza at 154 Talcottville Road (Route 83).

Police responded and a short time later found Jonatan Garcia-Calzada, 21, of no certain address, hiding in nearby woods in possession of stolen cash from one of the businesses.

He burglarized both Vernon Tailor and Shelly’s Hair Studio, which are adjoining businesses.

He’s charged with third-degree burglary, sixth-degree larceny, second-degree criminal mischief and second-degree criminal trespass.

His bond was set at $50,000 and he’s due in Rockville Superior Court Monday morning.
