Man Wounded In Officer-Involved Shooting

ANSONIA, Conn. (CBS Connecticut) _ A  33 year old man suffered non life-threatening injures and was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital after being shot in an officer-involved shooting in Ansonia Saturday afternoon around 2 p.m.

Ansonia Officer Joe Jackson shot the male suspect on the Maple Street Bridge as the man drove at Officer Jackson in his vehicle. Jackson was not injured.

This all came after a car chase where Jackson, responding to an evading motor vehicle accident, was able to stop the suspect vehicle near the bridge, remove the suspect from the vehicle, but was then assaulted by the suspect, who got back in the car, drove at Jackson and tried to flee the scene.

The suspect got as far as East 9th Street in Derby where he was picked up by an ambulance and transported to the hospital.

The suspect has been identified, but his name not yet released. As is protocol, state police have taken over the investigation.
