Hartford Police Chase Yields Gun, Drugs, Arrests

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ Police say a high-speed chase through the streets of Hartford has ended with a dramatic car crash and the arrest of two convicts on charges of criminal possession of a firearm and illegal drug possession.

Police are working to identify the driver of the rented minivan who fled on foot after the crash. Authorities say the two passengers suffered non-life-threatening injuries. They were identified as 34-year-old Shermane Rose and 37-year-old James Canidate, both of Hartford. It was not immediately clear if they have attorneys.

Police say Rose was convicted of murder, robbery and kidnapping in 2001. They describe Canidate as a career criminal with 35 previous arrest dating back to 1993 in Hartford alone. He has numerous convictions on firearm and illegal drug charges.

Authorities say the police chase began officers saw the minivan speeding in Hartford.
