DEEP Urges Caution On Ice

NEW FAIRFIELD, Conn. (CBS Connecticut) _ Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection is urging caution after two snowmobiles and an ATV fell through the ice this weekend at Candlewood Lake in New Fairfield.

Last night (Jan. 31), three people on snowmobiles were heading north in the area of Vaughn’s Neck when an accident occurred. Each snowmobile had a single occupant. One occupant, Timothy Langer, 38, of Danbury, was taken to Danbury Hospital by EMS with injuries.

His snowmobile hit an ice mound that caused the snowmobile to go airborne.

Today, Feb. 1, one snowmobile and one ATV fell through the ice at Candlewood Lake. There were no injuries.

“There is continued need for caution on ice as warmer temperatures are expected to continue,” DEEP Spokeswoman Cyndy Chanaca said. “EnCon Police urge extreme caution while on the ice. With temperatures rising this weekend many areas are unsafe for recreational activities.”
