Woman Charged With Break-in At Home Of Man Killed In Compactor

(CBS Connecticut) –– New London police have identified the man killed when he fell into the hopper of the trash compactor at the city’s transfer station —  and arrested a woman they say broke into his home shortly after his death.

59-year-old Floyd Smeeten of New London was pronounced dead shortly after 3:00 P.M.

About four hours later, having identified Smeeten, police went to his home on Borodell Place.  Arriving officers say they found a woman leaving the home with a bag full of items from inside.  They charged 24-year-old Danielle Sullivan with burglary and possession of burglary tools, tampering with evidence, larceny and attempted assault on a police officer.  Police say she was also charged with possession of a hallucinogen,  after they found suspected PCP in her possession.
