State Unemployment Down While Total Jobs Drop

HARTFORD (CBS Connecticut) —  Preliminary jobs numbers for Connecticut are in for December,  and the State Labor Department says it appears as if last month’s weather may have kept hiring down.  The total number of jobs statewide declined by about 3,900,  after an increase of 3,800 in November.

Research Director Andy Condon says even with the loss, statewide unemployment dropped two-tenths of a percent, to 7.4%.  That’s still higher than the national rate of 6.7%,  but Condon says the gap is narrowing.
